Mais Oui
Mais Oui, Tabernac, Je Suis Canadien.
When we grew up together, on the streets of Montréal
You told me to speak English, so you could learn my language.
“You,” you said, “you don’t need to speak French.
But me, I need English too get a job.”
Well, I never did learn your language, but you, You did pretty well.
The son of a fighting Irish man, I was having me a ball on the streets of Montréal.
But all to soon things changed,
“Can't you speak french” you said, “then you better get out of “Le Belle Province.”
I moved, to Prince Edward Island, I visit my brothers in Nova Scotia.
I feel at home in New Brunswick and now, I fish in Ontario, I make this place my home.
Mais Oui, Je Suis Canadien,
Tabernac! I was born in Montréal!
