Jack Rabbit's Demise

Once there was this guy called Jack Rabbit. He lived in the forest somewhere around here.
Now, Jack Rabbit was big and strong, as well as being smart and very careful. He had many enemies that would love nothing better than to eat him up. There were boys and men with guns, and there were eagles and hawks by day, and owls by night. But the very worst of all, was Mr. Fox.
Jack Rabbit would leap across logging roads, never leaving a trace. He would jump onto large tree branches, before pushing off with his powerful hind legs and leaping twenty or thirty feet in the other direction. He was always watching over his shoulder for Mr. Fox though, who it seemed would never give up.
But just when Mr. Fox thought he had Jack Rabbit in his teeth, Jack would find a tree to bounce off of, or outrun him plain and simple. Jack Rabbit was just too strong and fast for him, and Mr. Fox did eventually give up. After so many close calls, he just stopped trying. There were other, less tricky creatures for him to hunt and eat. Sometimes he would still see Jack, but he knew Jack would run away, so why bother wasting energy?
As the years went by, Jack didn’t have to be so careful. He still watched out for hunters and his other enemies, but somehow with Mr. Fox out of the picture, things weren’t so bad at all. Jack Rabbit found that he had a lot of free time to relax.
One day when Mr. Fox was out hunting, he spied little Jimmy Squirrel playing around a big, old tree. He was quite hungry, and decided right then and there to eat little Jimmy Squirrel for lunch. Jimmy Squirrel was so busy digging holes and looking for the nuts he had buried last fall, that Mr. Fox had no trouble sneaking up behind him.
Just as Mr. Fox was about to pounce on the poor little unsuspecting squirrel, he stopped frozen. He was unable to believe his good luck. There, leaning against a tree not three feet away and fast asleep, was Mr. Jack Rabbit.
